Put a claim on hold¶
What this is for¶
Holding a claim stops it from being sent to the payer until someone releases it โ for example while you wait for a corrected diagnosis from the provider. Your notes are shown on the claim to everyone who opens it.
Before you start¶
You need
The right to put claims on hold. If you do not see Put On Hold on a saved claim, ask your administrator.
The claim must be saved. A new claim that has not been saved yet cannot be held.
Steps¶
- Open the claim: in Manage Claim, click its Claim #, then click Edit claim on the Claim Summary.
- At the top of the claim, click Put On Hold.
-
In the Put On Hold box, fill in both fields:
- Reason โ a short reason, up to 200 characters.
- Follow-up Notes โ what has to happen before the hold is released.

What happens next¶
A red banner appears at the top of the claim showing when and by whom it was held, with your notes, and the claim is kept out of every send.
To release it: click Release Hold on the banner, fill in Reason and Follow-up Notes, and click Release Hold.
Common problems¶
| You see | Why | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| No Put On Hold button | The claim is not saved yet, it is already on hold, or your role does not have the right. | Save the claim first. If it still does not show, ask your administrator. |
| The banner has no Release Hold button | Releasing a hold is a separate right. | Ask someone who can release holds, or your administrator. |
| A claim you expected to send is missing from the send list | It is on hold. | In Manage Claim, use the Hold Status filter to find held claims. |
